One of the acts that the Octopus is currently most excited about is production duo Astronaut. Over the past few months, they've been steadily establishing their own unique style, with a sound design that is like nothing you've ever heard. The growling bass they like to use is slightly reminiscent of artists like Feed Me, or perhaps Pegboard Nerds, but that's as far as the similarities go. The first release of theirs that caught our attention was Quantum, as its swirling blend of heavy bass and dramatic chord stabs are instantly gratifying.
Their latest release, Champions, however, is an altogether different beast. Premiered over on thissongissick.com last week, Champions is a slightly more conventional affair, and yet is still distinctly Astronaut.
The duo employ the vocals of Harry Brooks Jr, and the uplifting lyrics sit nicely over the top of the exciting melodic line. Whilst it doesn't quite hit the highs or level of innovation as their other recent work, Champions is still a great track, and hopefully picks up support in DJ sets over the summer.
