Hello world! Do people even still say that when starting a blog? I’ve got no idea… what? Oh! Yes! Welcome to Excited Octopus, a brand new blog focussed on bringing you the very best content in the world of electronic music. Our aim is to become the best music blog in the whole world that features a cephalopod as its mascot (no easy feat, I can assure you).
Every day, we aim to present to you the very best that the world of electronic music (or, if you insist, EDM) has to offer. We’ll be reviewing albums, searching for the latest and greatest tracks, highlighting upcoming artists, and just generally be having a bit of a laugh. We’ll also have some great weekly features that will be unveiled to you over the coming days. It’s gonna be awesome.
But at this point, I expect you have a few questions. Like…
Why an octopus?
Why not?
No, it’s a fair question I suppose. Why indeed? Well, first and foremost, octopuses are pretty cool. Did you know they’ve got three hearts? Maybe you did, maybe you didn’t, that’s not important right now. Secondly, we aim to have tentacles everywhere, outreached into every corner of electronic music, to try to bring you stuff you don’t know about instead of just stuff you do.
Ok, how is this going to be any different to other EDM blogs?
Good question. Allow me to tie it into the last one. Octopuses are incredibly intelligent. I like to think that the audience that will accumulate here will be pretty smart too, and that you, the readers, will demand of me content that’s more than just, “Here’s a banger, go listen.” And that’s our aim. EO will hopefully become a place for content that’s far more in-depth than on other blogs, with our background in music providing fascinating insight and detailed reviews of anything we find, even if it’s just an individual track.
Ok, ok, starting to get it now. But why an excited octopus?
Because electronic music should be exciting! Don’t you think? There can be so much negativity in this part of the industry, but instead we should focus on what brought us here in the first place - our love of it! “Everything’s the same now.” “Such-and-such has totally sold out.” “Blah blah blah.” Yes, all of it’s true to some extent, but there’s still fantastic innovation and incredible music happening - you just have to know where to look. Our goal at EO is to look in the right places, and get everyone excited about electronic music again.
Because there’s an excited octopus inside all of us. When you’re at a rave, or a gig, flailing your arms around to your favourite artist, totally lost in the moment - that’s him! Go ahead and let him out. And allow us to give him a reason to be excited.
