Freemasons are back, and they're doing what they do best. For the last year, they've made up for what was a relatively quiet period following Shakedown 2 with a raft of great material, starting with singles like Bring It Back and Tears. Now, those releases are all about to wrapped up into a neat package, along with loads of new songs on a THREE DISK (!) album - Shakedown 3.
Before that though, the duo are releasing an EP of the same name, with a few new tracks that give you a taste of what you can expect from the full release when it drops in August. They've just released previews of four new tracks - let's walk through them here.
You invariably know what you're going to get with new Freemasons material, and that's a fantastic bit of disco house. In that respect then, their new tracks definitely don't disappoint.
Nothing To Lose continues their knack for radio-friendly anthems, with that signature Freemasons pulsing bass line, and sublime vocals from Andrea Martin. In fact, anthemic can be applied to this track in every way. It's basically Freemasons doing what they do best. The syncopated string stabs, the bass, the catchy vocal line - it's all there.
Second track In The Blue is much, much more of a departure from what we're used to, as the duo jump on the current deep house revival that's been so prevalent in the UK this year. To their credit, it works well, feeling like a blend between the classic house style with their own. It's definitely Freemasons, but as you've never heard them before, and thankfully, it doesn't feel like they've simply jumped on the bandwagon.
True Love Survivor is back to traditional Freemasons. Funky guitars, and vocal shouts build up to frantic string passages and another solid performance from vocalist HANA. This is another great feel-good track for the summer.
Finally, Discopolis rounds off the set of track previews. It starts off sounding remarkably like Nero's Reaching Out - in fact, it's the exact same chords/notes. But you could hardly call it a rip off, as after this, it becomes a banging track with a massive synth bass line that's sure to shake the room.
These new previews offer just a glimpse of their new collection, but coupled with the tracks that we've already heard, Freemasons look like they're on their way to releasing the feel-good album of the summer. They never really change, but as they're the only ones doing this, that's absolutely fine by me.
