So, this is awesome and everything, but someone really needs to tell Monstercat that we're meant to give them something nice for their birthday, not the other way around. I'm not going to complain though, as to celebrate the label's 3rd year of existence, Monstercat has teamed up with Didrick, who has really created something very special for them: a live mashup of their best tracks, from the likes of Pegboard Nerds, Au5, Rogue and many more.
The video really is a sight to behold. Once you've watched it, head below to read a little more.
Didrick has really gone all out for this one. The producer is only 19, but if this extraordinary feat is anything to go by, he certainly has a bright future ahead of him. He somehow manages to cram 78 songs into this epic celebratory mashup. Good luck trying to find them all, though; it moves at such a furious pace that just as you hear a bit you recognise, and work out where it's from, the track has long since moved on and you've missed 20 other songs.
That's no bad thing mind - the different components from all 78 songs come together and blend seamlessly to create a surprisingly cohesive work - you get snatches of the originals, but this really might as well be an original track in its own right.
As if mashing together that many songs wasn't tricky enough, Didrick further complicates matters by performing it all live. Yes, that means launchpads and keyboards, but it also means live drums, guitar, and string and brass sections. It sounds like this would make things far too bus, but it all works spectacularly well. This is basically Madeon's Pop Culture on steroids.
It does start to run out of steam slightly towards the end section (although the very final build up to the end is sensational), though in some ways it's nice to have a little more breathing space after the madness before.
Monstercat is becoming increasingly well known for it's innovative and creative releases. Didrick's live performance is perhaps the ultimate proof of this, taking all of those innovative releases, and presenting them in a truly unique way. Happy birthday, Monstercat - here's to the next three years...
