Pegboard Nerds - Emergency

The Nerds are at it again, continuing their quest to expand their musical horizons, and to take EDM to places it's never been before. Their latest effort, Emergency, sees Monstercat's premier signing display their genre-blending prowess once more in an absolutely massive track that, like some of their other recent offerings, is likely to split opinion.

Which side of the fence are we raving on? Read on to find out.

Emergency starts off sounding like, of all things, a pop track. The infectious (no pun intended) vocals and slick piano part, coupled with a pulsating synth, give it a very radio-friendly feel. However, Emergency very quickly becomes an altogether different beast; still a club banger, but you're unlikely to find it on primetime Radio 1. The duplets of the opening are soon abandoned, giving way to a frantic succession of triplet melodies.

And then, like an RKO outta nowhere (internet joke for you, there), Emergency body slams you with a massive Big Room drop. Calling it Big Room is almost a disservice to how innovative this track is, though, as the duo's penchant for catchy riffs is in full display here.

Epic chord stabs and a second drop that's even bigger and better than the first (something that seems to be a recurring theme with Pegboard Nerds) see Emergency become another fantastic addition to Pegboard Nerds' burgeoning back catalogue. The Big Room might put some off, but see past it and the Electro melodies should definitely draw you in. This is one that's set to absolutely destroy large crowds - someone better phone 999...
