Jon Gooch, AKA Feed Me or Spor, pulled the trigger on the release of his new album created under the latter aforementioned moniker today. Caligo, Jon's new album under his Drum & Bass alias Spor, had been scheduled for a mid-March release, with the original plan being to initially release the album on BitTorrent, followed by a conventional release a few days later.
However, last night, someone decided to spoil the fun, and leaked the album early, forcing the release to be brought forward to today. The real kicker here, is that had people been able to wait just a few weeks, Caligo was set to be a free download anyway - BitTorrent Bundles does allow people to 'name their price' for albums, but also gives a free option.
Jon was consequently also forced to bring a planned Reddit AMA forward to today, too. You can find his reaction to the whole thing, along with previews of the album and a link to download the whole thing, below.
When asked through Reddit how he felt about the leak of Caligo, Jon had this to say:
"I anticipated this happening, no matter how hard I worked to prevent it. As a result, we were fully prepared [...]
It's important to be pragmatic. In the end, I'm more so flattered that people are interested [...]
How do I feel? Seeing a good few people saying they were prepared to wait it out, and showing some feeling towards it leaking really is flattering, so a huge thank you to all those people. It's impossible not to be really attached to something you've worked on for so long, I really do appreciate the unity. That said - I'm not one to dwell, and I've got the best team and management in the world, as well as BitTorrent fully behind us, so it's also been humbling watching them all react so quickly."
You can stream Calico via the widget below, in which you can also find a link to the album's BitTorrent bundle. There, you can either download the album (plus an assortment of other contents, including sketches for unreleased tracks) for free, or pay however much you want (which gets you a small text file from Jon as an extra bonus). You can expect a review of the album in the next few days.
