Do these men never stop?! Vicetone are back again, and are looking to recreate their winning combination with vocalist Kat Nestel, who proved a massive success on No Way Out, their first collaboration.
Their new track is called Angels. As you'd expect from the Dutch duo, it's another barnstorming track, but it comes with a slightly different vibe to their usual offerings.
It feels a lot more like a proper collaboration, rather than an instrumental with a vocal bunged on top, and is all the better for it. Kat's wonderful vocals get ample breathing room, and really shine when they come right to the fore before the drop.
The production is a lot more creative this time around, with Vicetone going for a slightly more pop-vibe. My one criticism of the duo in the past has been that their style had become stagnant, so it's totally refreshing here to hear a slight change in direction, and I'm delighted to see that they're branching out.
The melody is totally addictive, with the faux-trumpet creating a hook to instantly latch on to, whilst the booms and claps give Angels an extremely slick edge that's new for a Vicetone track.
It's instantly likeable, but feels way less by the numbers than some of their other tracks (which are still good, by the way!). I've said it before, but Vicetone continually amaze me with the rate at which they release new tracks, all the while keeping the quality consistently high.
But here, they've taken it even higher, as Angels is a fantastic addition to the pair's back catalogue. If this is what Vicetone and Kat can do together, here's hoping it's not the last time we see them pair up.
